The full House of Education Committee met and considered the following:
HB1056 (Townsend – R) Replaces the term auto-injectable epinephrine with epinephrine and consolidates provisions relating to epinephrine and schools DO PASS
Allows for the possession of an inhaler for anaphylactic shock, stocking of the product by schools and training requirements for staff application
HB669 (Meeks – R) Awards low-wealth capital outlay grants to qualifying local school systems that award certain contracts for roofing improvements to suppliers that meet certain criteria DO PASS
Allows for cooperative purchasing opportunities in this regard.
HB1257 (Rice – R) Revises provisions for incentive grants for local boards of education to approve charter school petitions DO PASS
Adjusts timeline for payment, $2.25M cap, local charters can only convert to State if a local Board non-renews.
HB1232 (Cheokas – R) Provides that Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts be excused from school for participating in certain officially sanctioned visits to the State Capitol DO PASS
The bill was presented to Committee again to remove the reference to Boy Scouts.
The House Retirement Committee met and voted DO PASS on HB 969 (Townsend-R) which prohibits retirees from being disqualified from post-employment health benefits solely because they serve as elected school board members and contains provisions which allow for an immediate choice as to whether the participant wants their status to be part-time or full-time, that the choice complies with Medicare eligibility and that no benefits would be lost.
