The GSSA selection committee, which is made up of past Superintendent of the Year state winners, reviewed nearly 20 nominations received from local boards of education, staff, and RESA’s.  Their job was to narrow the field to the top four candidates that will now compete through the AASA application process. After a lengthy discussion, the difficult task of selecting four top candidates from such an outstanding group of nominees became very evident. The committee recommended the following four finalists: Dr. Joseph Barrow, superintendent of Fayette County Schools, Dr. Jason Branch, superintendent of Oconee County Schools, Mr. Scott Cowart, superintendent of the Carroll County Schools, and Dr. Allen McCannon, superintendent of Madison County Schools.  All of the final four candidates will now work through the AASA (national) level highly challenging application process.  After which a single finalist will be named to represent Georgia at the national level at the GSSA/GSBA winter conference in December. Georgia has had the distinction of having two national finalists and one national winner over the last two years. Therefore, the expectations are certainly high for Georgia’s SOY selection to compete well at the national level once again for the AASA 2016 SOY. (to be announced in Phoenix at AASA’s national conference February 11-13, 2016).  Congratulations to all four finalists as well as to their local boards of education and communities.
