The Cherokee County Board of Education is seeking a Superintendent to lead the Cherokee County Schools (“CCS”).  Candidates must have or be qualified to hold a Superintendent license in North Carolina.  Prior experience or a doctoral degree is preferred but not required.  The individual chosen will be required to live in Cherokee County.

 

Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability in: 1) instructional and administrative leadership; 2) partnering with community members, school personnel and government officials; 3) public relations; 4) administration and organization; 5) long and short term planning; 6) budgeting; 7) personnel management and staff development; 8) facility management; and 9) community involvement.

 

Cherokee County is North Carolina’s western most county located in the southern tip of the Great Smoky Mountains and bordered by the states of Tennessee and Georgia.  Cherokee County was formed in 1839 and is within two hours driving distance from four major metropolitan cities.  This is some of the most beautiful country in North Carolina with its rich natural beauty of lakes, rivers, streams, waterfalls, and mountains.  Our county enjoys moderate temperatures year-round making it ideal for hiking and other outdoor activities.  The County has an estimated population of 27,400 with approximately 2,800 students in thirteen schools.  Of those, three are traditional high schools, two middle schools, three elementary schools, three K-8 schools, one alternative school and one Early College High School.  CCS also has after-school child care programs in all 3 elementary schools.  The school district employs over 500 employees and is the largest employer in Cherokee County.

 

CCS is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Education.  The Board is searching for a Superintendent who will continue a tradition of academic achievement and excellence.
